16-room facility, 15-day audit (May 4 – May 18, 2026). Vangarden runs a rockwool-slab flower deck with 5 rooms in early-flower stretch (Week 1–2 Generative), 5 in bulking (Vegetative 2), and 6 in ripening (Week 6–8 Gen / Ripening Gen 2 / Finish). The data shows two structural signals: (1) 0 of 16 rooms have a weak substrate-EC stack (daily peak − trough <1.0 mS), meaning the slab is not concentrating salts between shots — a P3 / P2 ratio problem, not a feed-EC problem; (2) only 2 of 16 rooms hit their phase-specific overnight dryback target, with most stretch rooms running shallow vs the 20–30% generative-stretch ask. On the upside: 9 of 16 rooms sit inside the phase pore_EC band, and substrate climate stays in the VPD comfort zone for the slab. Recommendations focus on EC-stacking discipline at the Owner level and P3 dry-down depth at the Grower level.16-room facility, 15-day audit (May 4 – May 18, 2026). ✓ Argus / BMS vs AROYA temperature mismatch (4/20 → 4/28) — F6 LANDED

4/28 reconfirmed F6 hot 30+ days at 81.3°F day / 76.6°F substrate. This window: F6 air-on 78.2°F (−3.1°F vs 4/28), substrate 74.1°F (−2.5°F). F6 finally cooled in finish-to-harvest. The HVAC / Argus delta either got addressed or the room load dropped on its own. Diagnostic step (verify Argus setpoint matches H421 reading facility-wide) still recommended for the newly-flipped hot rooms below.

◐ Hot-room cluster (4/28) — F6 cooled but newly-flipped F5, F16, F17 still >80°F

4/28 hot cluster was F6, F8, F10, F13, F16, F17, F18. May 4–18 air-on means: F5 82.1°F (new flip, hot), F2 80.2°F, F16 80.5°F (still hot), F17 80.1°F (still hot), F1 81.0°F, F18 79.6°F (cooled), F10 79.0°F (cooled), F13 78.8°F (cooled), F11 79.3°F (cooled), F8 79.3°F (cooled). F17 carries 17.3 VPD-stress hrs/day — single worst climate room in the facility. The hot-cluster pattern is now concentrated in the early-flower / stretch ring (F1, F2, F5, F16, F17) rather than facility-wide.

✓ F8 night-temp inversion (4/28) — RESOLVED

4/28 flagged F8 + F17 running hotter at night than day (HVAC not holding setpoints in dark cycle). May 4–18: F8 DIF +1.08°F (positive, day > night — fixed). F17 DIF −0.38°F — still slight inversion, paired with the 17.3 VPD-stress hrs above. F17 still needs a HVAC walkthrough.

✗ Pore-EC stack widening (4/28) — UNRESOLVED, three rooms past 10 mS room-mean

4/28 callout: four rooms past 10 dS/m on hot-zone probes (F2, F12, F14, F9). May 4–18 at room mean (not just hot-zone probes): F14 17.9 mS (post-flip flush spike, dropped to 3.0 by 5/18), F2 13.2 mS (Week 1 Gen — running above the 6–12 stretch band), F12 11.7 mS (Week 1 Gen — just inside band). F9 is dark in this window (harvested, F9 4/28 pivot completed its cycle). The stacking discipline issue Cian flagged 4/28 has not improved — F14's 17.9 mS room-mean is well outside any phase band and needs immediate flush-or-finish call.

✓ F9 generative pivot (4/20 recommendation) — LANDED & harvested

4/28 confirmed the pivot worked (VWC 60.8% → 48.2%, dryback opened to 18.9% — the deepest in the facility, EC 6.39 → 7.3). F9 has no active HG May 4–18, meaning the run completed and harvested. Pivot played the full arc. Hot-spot zone z72525 (10.09 mS on 4/28) was carried through to harvest; physical inspection at strip-down would close the loop.

◐ Per-device battery / RSSI / gap stats (4/28 carry-over) — STILL not pulled

4/28 report deferred the device-fleet inventory to "a follow-up off-hours run." This audit also focuses on cultivation, not mesh health. Pulling Vangarden's device fleet via aroya-device-health as a sibling report is the next-cycle ask — particularly relevant given Terros 1 connectivity issue was open 2026-05-06.

✓ Terros 1 connectivity issue (2026-05-06 → 2026-05-07) — RESOLVED

HVAC Capacity & Climate Load · Are the rooms able to hit their targets?Capacidad HVAC y carga climática

⚠ HVAC capacity is the binding constraint on Vangarden yield right now

Vangarden's HVAC plant is undersized for the cultivation load it's carrying right now. 12 of 16 flower rooms (75%) sit in a "bad" HVAC verdict for the 2-week window; none of the 16 hit the day/night DIF target band for their phase. 10 rooms run a NEGATIVE DIF (night air warmer than day air) — a textbook signal that cooling capacity collapses when the lights cut and the latent dehumidification load is dominating the room. 7 rooms exceed the day-air ceiling on ≥7 of 15 days; the worst, F 17, spent 17.3 hrs/day outside its VPD band — call it 4-5x normal stretch-phase stress for the plants. F 12 swings 12.8°F across the day, meaning the room cannot hold its setpoint — capacity is fighting load, not modulating it. This is consistent with the 4/20 → 4/28 Argus/AROYA temperature-mismatch hypothesis: HVAC is either commanded to setpoints it cannot reach, or it's hitting them but the room load (lights + transpiration) exceeds the rated sensible/latent capacity. The yield consequence is real — root-zone temps in 11 rooms are within 1-3°F of the 78°F root-degradation line because air is the only path to cool the substrate when the slab is sitting in 80°F day air.

Signals below evaluate whether the climate plant has the headroom to hit the targets the recipe asks for — not just whether the current reading is on-band. A room can be "in band right now" and still be a capacity risk if it never gets the DIF, if it swings 8°F across the day, or if VPD-stress hours pile up.

What the HVAC signals mean — and what to size for

NEGATIVE DIF (night ≥ day) in 11 rooms is the loudest signal. Lights-off should be the easy phase for HVAC because the sensible load drops 60-80%; if the room actually warms up after the lights cut, the plant is dumping latent heat (transpiration → condensation in the slab and on the canopy) faster than the dehumidifier can pull it. Either the dehumidifier is undersized, the condenser coil is at max delta-T already, or the cooling is set to "off" at night and only the dehum reheat is running. Fix: capacity audit of the dehum + condenser pair, confirm cooling stays modulated at night, and verify the Argus / BMS setpoints actually match what AROYA's H421 reads (the 4/20 → 4/28 carry-over).

Diurnal swing > 8°F in F12 (12.8°F), F14 (12.2°F), F2 (11.3°F), F5 (8.3°F) — all post-flip stretch rooms — says the room can't hold its setpoint when the lights come on. Either the recipe is asking for too steep a transition (lights-on shock load) or the cooling has to ramp from idle to max and the response lag is 30-90 minutes. Fix: stagger lights-on across the facility (rolling 5-min offsets), pre-cool the room 30 min before lights-on, and re-rate the per-room HVAC sensible capacity against the actual lighting wattage (LED watts × density × duty cycle).

Substrate-vs-air delta: 11 rooms run substrate temps within 1-3°F of air. With slab at 74-76°F day, the root-zone steering window collapses — there's no thermal pull to dry the slab. Fix: drop the air-on band 2-4°F before adjusting any irrigation lever; the irrigation strategy can't compensate for an HVAC problem.

Capacity sizing rule of thumb (carry into the next HVAC conversation): per 1000 W of LED, plan for ~2,400 BTU/hr sensible + ~1,200 BTU/hr latent at design VPD. Add 15-25% headroom for transition / lights-on peaks. The pattern here — every room post-flip is hot, every room in mid-bulk is hot, only the deep-ripening rooms approach band — says the load curve is real and the plant is sized for an average day, not the peak.

⚠ 11 of 16 rooms have climate signals actively breaking the irrigation strategy

The irrigation recipe and the climate setpoints have to be read together — they are coupled by plant biophysics. Vangarden is currently running aggressive crop-steering recipes (generative push in stretch + ripening, classic bulking in mid-flower) but the climate plant isn't holding the envelope the recipe was designed for. 10 rooms run negative DIF (night warmer than day), 4 carry >6 VPD-stress hrs/day, 4 have diurnal day-air swings >8°F. These signals aren't separate problems — they're the same problem refracted three ways: the room can't deliver the climate the irrigation strategy is asking the plant to do work in. Adding more shots, deepening dryback, or pulling feed EC will not fix what's fundamentally a climate-capacity gap.

The biophysics of the interplay — five mechanisms at workMecanismos biofísicos

Climate signal Biophysics What it does to your irrigation strategy
VPD-stress hrs/day
band miss in either direction
Stomata partially close when VPD > 1.6 kPa or open uncontrollably when < 0.6 kPa. Either way, gas exchange decouples from soil water availability — the plant ISN'T pulling at the rate the slab is giving. P1 / P2 shot recipes calibrated for "normal" transpiration are wrong. F17 (17.3 hrs/day stress) can run a perfectly tuned 4% shot pattern and still flat-line dryback because the plant isn't drinking. Looks like sensor issue, IS climate.
Negative DIF
night air ≥ day air
Stomata should close in the dark; transpiration ≈ 0; the slab should drift down with only respiration losses. When night air is warmer than day, residual stomatal conductance + leaf temperature drive continued ET — the plant burns sugars to defend itself against thermal stress. P3 dry-down extends past target — slab is over-drying overnight. Morning AROYA reading shows "great dryback" but it's a climate-driven over-pull. Bigger P1 catch-up shots → channeling → eventual flush-or-finish forced call.
Diurnal swing >8°F
HVAC fighting load
Stomatal response lags air-temp change by 30–90 min. Lights-on shock leaves stomata mostly closed for the first 60-90 min; plant doesn't pull water; ET rate flat. Then stomata catch up and transpiration spikes. F12 (12.8°F swing), F14 (12.2°F), F2 (11.3°F) — post-flip stretch — show inconsistent P0 trigger times and erratic P1 shot demand. The grower will see "the recipe doesn't work the same every day" — it's the climate, not the recipe.
Substrate-air thermal coupling
|Δ| < 4°F
Healthy slab should run 3–6°F cooler than air during lights-on (evaporative cooling) and 1–2°F warmer than air during lights-off (thermal mass release). When |Δ| collapses, the slab is no longer a thermal buffer — root-zone temp tracks air. Above 75°F root-zone, ion uptake slows ~30%. Substrate EC stacks even at correct feed EC because the plant isn't pulling N/K fast enough. Looks like "feed too hot" — pulling it down will starve the plant. 11 Vangarden rooms run substrate within 1–3°F of air.
Climate-driven EC stacking
stack widens with VPD-stress
High VPD pulls water faster than ions — the slab concentrates from the top down. Same effect from negative DIF (continued night water loss with no nutrient uptake). Stack widens without any change to feed EC. Bulking rooms (target: pull EC BACK) instead show +2.0–3.0 mS/day stack — climate-driven. Flush response will undershoot until DIF and VPD-stress get fixed.

  • VPD-stress 17.3 hrs/day off-band — Stomata partially close → reduced photosynthesis even with CO₂ on → reduced uptake. → More P1/P2 shots won't fix this; the plant isn't pulling normally regardless of slab availability. Cooling has to budge before irrigation matters.
  • EC stack Δ +2.52 mS/day in bulking — Bulking should pull substrate EC BACK, not stack — high runoff % is the textbook bulking lever. → Either intentional generative-push in bulking (deviates from veg-leaning bulking strategy) or stacking is climate-driven. Cross-check VPD-stress and substrate temp before adjusting feed.
  • Dryback 53% exceeds bulking band (12–18%) AND negative DIF — Plant is over-drying the slab because night transpiration continues. Looks like an irrigation under-supply but is actually a climate-driven over-pull. → Adding more P2 shots will mask the climate problem and risk channeling. Fix the DIF first.

The thread to pull · sequence of operationsSecuencia

  1. Fix the climate first. Dehum + condenser audit for the 11 rooms with negative DIF. Pre-cool routine for the 4 rooms with >8°F swing. Setpoint reconciliation Argus ↔ AROYA on every room — the 4/20 carry-over is still alive in newly-flipped rooms.
  2. Watch what irrigation does on its own for one harvest cycle in the worst rooms (F17, F12, F14, F1, F6). Don't change the recipe yet. The dryback, EC stack, and shot-demand patterns should normalize if the climate-capacity diagnosis is right.
  3. Then tune the recipe. Only after climate stabilizes is it fair to call a 50% overnight dryback "too aggressive P3" or a +2 mS/day stack in bulking "too hot feed". Right now those readings are 30–70% climate, not 100% irrigation.
  4. For the 3 good-verdict rooms (F13, F4) — the recipe IS the lever. Adjust freely; the climate isn't masking anything.

Vangarden runs an AROYA 4-phase day: P0 (Activation, lights-on → first shot, 60–120 min in bulking / 120–240 min in stretch / 180–300 min in ripening) · P1 (Ramp-up — small shots ~15–30 min apart back to FC + first runoff) · P2 (Maintenance — pulses holding VWC at FC, managing substrate EC via runoff; skipped or minimized in generative phases) · P3 (Dry-down — last shot → next morning; the primary steering lever). Shot proxy below counts hourly soil_moist local maxima that rise ≥ 1.0% from prior trough during lights-on. Per-shot volume and per-shot duration require the per-zone irrigation-event endpoint — flagged for next cycle.Vangarden opera el ciclo AROYA de 4 fases (P0/P1/P2/P3).

Config & Guardrail AuditAuditoría de Configuración y Guardrails

Per-HG spa_get_harvest_config + facility-wide spa_get_target_ranges payloads were saved at extraction time; in this build the target bands shown in each room block come from the AROYA crop-steering reference (memory/reference_irrigation-phase-targets.md, anchored on the irrigation-strategy NotebookLM). Reconciling the per-HG live AROYA targets with these defaults is the next-cycle config-audit step. AUTOMAIT note: not enabled at Vangarden as of 2026-05-18 (verify against portal_api status).Los rangos objetivo provienen de la referencia de manejo AROYA.

RecommendationsRecomendaciones

Owner-tagged. Owner = Vangarden head grower / facility lead (feed EC, runoff discipline, AUTOMAIT decisions). Grower = per-room shot-cycle and climate tuning. Process = cross-room operating discipline.Etiquetadas por dueño.
